Feed Kids Minds

... as well as Their Bodies

There is so much focus on kids nutrition and the 5 a day fruit and vegetable requirements, that sometimes there is a tendency to forget that kids minds also need nourishing not just their bodies. I’m not saying that a healthy diet is not important, but that just as much attention should be given to feeding your kids minds with useful information. Mind you there is nothing wrong with eating an apple whilst reading a book!

Feeding your kids minds need not be an arduous task. Start with simple ideas such as reading – and try reading all kinds of literature from magazines to non-fiction. The greater variety of books and other reading material that your children have access to, the less likely they are to get bored and the more likely they are to learn something new. Spend some time reading to your child and also with your child but let them read alone too so they get some independence with that task.

Television can also be a great way to widen our kids knowledge of all sorts of areas. There are fantastic programmes available today for all ages, not just kids, so history, geography, natural science and technology are just some of the areas addressed by some excellent TV programmes. It could not be easier to learn something new.

The internet (with some parental controls in place) is a great source of education for kids and opens a whole new area of technology learning for kids. Not only can you find some great educational websites for children but also some great online games sites too! Your computer can also be used to play kids educational software using interactive CDs and DVDs. There is such a great range of software for kids that you are sure to find a product that is right for your child. Check out some review sites to see what other people have thought of the kids software – you may find their comments useful in making a decision on the learning software you are interested in purchasing.

Try out different options to help your kids to learn and find out which learning options suit your child the best. All children are different and each child will have a preferred learning media – though this does not mean they should watch TV all day just because they say it is their favourite! Be sensible and use the various learning options carefully and in moderation so that your child receives a balanced learning experience. You will see a change in their attitude to learning and they will progress more quickly. Be as positive as you can and give praise when it is due as this will encourage your child with their learning. Complete their learning experience with rewards so the child can see that their progress is acknowledged and they feel a great sense of achievement. It will be fun for both you and your child so why not get started on feeding your kids minds now.
